About the Position & Lab
The Challenging Health inequity in Adolescents and Nurturing Global Empowerment (CHANGE) Lab directed by Dr. Idia Thurston! Collectively known as butterflies, our lab consists of the principle investigator, research staff, and undergraduate volunteers. The overall vision of the CHANGE lab is to support adolescents to have fair and just opportunities to be as healthy as possible. Our mission is to engage in community-academic partnerships to assess, co-develop, and disseminate health equity science, programs, and policy that support adolescents and their families. Lastly, the CHANGE lab researches 1) adolescents and their families, 2) multilevel risk and protective factors contributing to health inequities, and 3) community engaged & responsive methods.
We are seeking research assistants who are interested in working on one of our two projects we are recruiting staff for:
IDEAS (Increasing Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion in the Academic Health Sciences): A research project focused on improving heath equity in an anti- DEI climate. This project is focused on widely sharing insights, lessons, and current approaches gained from institutional decision-makers (deans, academic chairs, DEI staff), organizational student leaders, and an updated scoping review to a broader audience on how to sustain the widespread adoption and integration of DEI while navigating an anti-DEI landscape.
You Got It Girl: A summer camp, led by Shantell Jeter, for students aged 6-16 in the Boston area dedicated to empowering young girls through basketball, wellness, and research. In partnership with Boston Public Schools, the CHANGE Lab conducts an evaluation of the YGIG program and its impact and is now preparing a report and designing programming for the next cohort of campers.
Research assistants are required to commit 6 hours a week and be available for project meetings for either:
IDEAS Project meetings (1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month 2-2:30)
